Random Thoughts

Michael Richards: Please shut up - there is [nothing] you can say to make it better. No matter how many times you apologize it will not be enough. Just be quiet, slink off and be done.

Iraq: I am not against having gone - I am not concerned the time there now exceeds the length of WWII - what I am concerned about is the Iraqi people themselves. I thought they would rise up in disgust by now against those causing the slaughter. Guess I was wrong.

The President: I may be the only one left, but I support him. The Axis of Evil is real, and The President is evidently one of the very few with gonads large enough to say so. Others? They have slowly slunk away, back into what they perceive to be their safe places (politically speaking). They sicken me to the very depths of my being.

Spoils of victory: Ms. Pelosi is [taking] Denny Hastert's office. This is not the office of the designated Speaker of The House... this office has been used by Republicans since Bob Michael was minority leader. This bodes quite well for the new spirit of bipartisan cooperation. Love it!

Minimum Wage: To be raised quite soon... I think it should be a minimum of $12.00 an hour. Why not? If $7.00 is good, why not ten, even twenty per hour? Well, why NOT???

Govering From The Center

OK class - today as we open this new congress, we have many new members whom we've been told are moderates. These people, we've been told, are not hardliners - they are open to compromise... umm shall we try a subject or two?

a) Abortion - are you for it or agin it? OK moderates, pick a side.
b) Immigration (LEGAL Immigration) - come on moderate folks, make up your mind. You gotta pick a position.
c) Judicial nominees (the most important) - do you want a judge who will interpret the law or one who will make law? You do realize, 'your' job is to make law doncha?

My point is this: these yahoooos can come to congress and say they are moderates all they want. I think what people are trying to say is they want people who are Mr. and Mrs. Nice. Well folks, in the final analysis, somebody has to make a decision, and that is when moderation goes out the window. You either make the right decision, or you make the wrong decision. In somebodies opinion that is, and after all, isn't that what this is all about?

The Aftermath - Elections 2006

Or was it a bloodbath - dunno, but a few observations:
a) Secretary Rumsfield will not be the only head to roll. The President is now (sad to say), like most predecessors, preparing for his legacy.
b) I was wrong thinking that illegal immigration was going to be 'the' issue of this election. The democrats were able to make the war 'the' issue. Now, they will bring forth a comprehensive immigration bill which the president 'will' sign.
c) Did you notice? I follow this junk... I am a junkie when it comes to politics. I watched / listened most of the day... did you notice - I guess because the democrats were successful. I did not hear even one example today about voter fraud. How about THAT!!!!!
d) There were no riots in the streets because of the election.
e) There were no talks of a coup or a government overthrow. We are fortunate to live in these United States. I have been in countries when an election was held and there was martial installed. The feeling amongst the people is, shall we say, spooky.
f) The stock market is at an all time high
g) The unemployment rate is 4.3% (considered full employment.
h) I retired 1 March - my net worth has increased each and every month since retirement and believe me when I say, I ain't no rich man. I wonder how that is... cain't figure it out.
i) Every dang restaurant we go to is packed. Economy sucks.
j) I am doggone glad that Lincoln Chafee lost.
k) Finally, it is clear that I do not know the pulse of America. My choice for mayor even lost. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... all I can say in summation. The republican party had their chance. From a very early age, after much observation, I said - if 'ever' the republicans get both the house and the senate and don't do something I will no longer care. That day has come - I will wander on towards the final phase of my life oblivious to this junk. Oh I will still observe; I now know it just does not matter.

A New Beginning

Ahh, freshness in the air - koom by yah time... out of Iraq (all they gotta do is shut off the money), a raise in the minimum wage ( I say if $10.00 an hour is good, why not $20.00). Well why not?

You might be surprised that I believe the republicans had it coming. They had the opportunities to, shall we say, 'make it happen'. They have in affect, been in control since 1994. I have been disappointed in many decisions they've made over that time but...

One other thing... I think the perception / reality may be a better word, of corruption was the deciding factor... the war? Don't think so, although it just doesn't matter. The war is over. Just turn off the money Mr. and Mrs. Congress person.

Ahh sweet victory - I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Election Day - High Noon

Voted early this morning - got it done and was home working in the yard by 8:30 - The Good Lord has blessed us with lovely weather and I just figured there is no excuse not to get the leaves up. Could use abit of rain - heh heh.

Predictions:
There will be charges of voter fraud where ever it is believed 'your' candidate is losing.
There will be calls to keep the polls open cause we just couldn't get in to vote
There will be stories of voters being disenfranchised.
There was a major call for getting rid of punch card ballots in Florida because a certain segment could not understand them. Now by the demand of the people, millions of dollars have been spent on mosheens in order to fix the punch card issue. Nobody is happy. Nor will they ever be.

To all of this I say horse pucky. And, I'm cooking some corned beef and cabbage this afternoon so I can hunker down tonight to watch. Sort of hope for an early night.
