The Growing Financial Crisis in City Governments

Stockton California is only the beginning, and I am sick of the phrase “cities can no longer pay the benefits”.  The simple fact so many are missing is the cities never COULD afford all the benefits. That is not to say they can’t / couldn’t pay benefits.  It is when they get so out of sync with what is paid in the private sector.

I dunno what the final result will be, but we are not even talking billions state and local governments can’t cover.  We are talking trillions, with a “T”.  We can not even imagine where we are.  It will change, one way or the other, and it is probably ‘the other’.

Right or Left Supreme Court

In case you have not figured it out, it matters not what you think of The Supreme Court.  If there is a 5-4 decision it is an extremist court.  If it is 6 or 7 (siding with the conservative side), then it is a court dominated by extremists.

On the other hand, if anyone from the nasty ‘right’ sides with those considered liberal, then they are enlightened.  It is so very tiresome.

Based on my understanding of their Arizona ruling, I would not be one teensy weensy bit surprised to see them uphold Obama Care.  So does that mean I am disappointed with the ruling in the Arizona case?  You bet.  It means, at least to me, there is NO State’s sovereignty.  You must follow federal law even if the feds are not enforcing said law.

A sad day in this country.  On to the Obama Care ruling.  We shall see.

The Commerce Secretary

Just one question  for the class – if you, John Q. Dipstick Public were charged with two incidents of hit and run (whatever), in California… would you be back home on the East Coast on the next day?  Think about it Bungee.

I don’t give a rats ptooie if he had a seizure, or he pissed his pants… “YOU” would not be 3000 miles away within w4 hours. Just saying.

Passing Thoughts

The results in Wisconsin and two cities in California last night have given me personally renewed hope the American people have, or are finally awakening.  I believe people are finally realizing the sense of entitlement that has been eroding this country has to be reigned in to a degree.  Scott Walker  in WI, without even laying off one employee has turned the fiscal mess around there.  He did this by very slight modifications – making people contribute just abit to their health plans etc. I feel invigorated!!

I only have one word to describe the anchors on CNN and MSNBC last night.  DELICIOUS!  Leading up to ‘the call’, they all were excited because the exit polls said it was 50/50.  When very soon it was realized the exit polls were wrong (what’s new), the enthusiasm went out of their voices in a hurry!  It was oh so revealing.  And that was the VERY reason I was watching those channels… just to watch them eat crow.

I get the biggest kick out of people in high places who it turns out, got there with unauthorized assists.  The  latest rendition of this is Ms. Warren who is running for the Senate from MA.  She claimed Indian heritage and reaped professional benefits because of those claims.  It is all coming out into the sunlight and people like her, especially those in government make my skin crawl.  Apparently I am not the only one… I equate this to those people in WI and CA who are waking up.  It is refreshing. Methinks Affirmative Action is going to be impacted, F I N A L L Y!!

One more thing, again along the same lines – our local police chief just resigned.  I have supported him for many years, blindly it now seems.  He made a sexual remark to a 13 year old girl (the remark is not in question).  It was done in a public setting; at that point I wanted him OUT.  After several weeks, he submitted his resignation.  There is allot more to this story, but here is the kicker. He gets 57K per year, plus 212K for selling his unused vacation / sick leave.  A person working for a <company> would have been canned!  People are waking up!
